Garnet Valley High School senior Bryan Manzano was selected to perform in the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) 2018 All-National Symphony Orchestra at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando, Florida. Students from across the country gathered from Nov 25-28 to rehearse under the baton of some of the nation's finest music educators and conductors, culminating with a concert on Wednesday, Nov 28.
According the official NAfME website, "The NAfME All-National Honor Ensembles (ANHE) represent the top performing high school musicians in the United States. So much more than a musical ensemble; it is a comprehensive, musical and educational experience". To achieve this honor, students must participate in several competitive auditions and festivals at the local, regional, and state level.
"We are tremendously proud of Bryan for this monumental achievement," commented GVHS Band Director Steve Selfridge, "Reaching this level of musicianship requires many hours of hard work, practice, and dedication". Manzano described the experience as an "incredible music making process that was both intense and extremely fun", and expressed his thanks to Garnet Valley for helping to sponsor his trip: "No words can completely describe how thankful I am for having the opportunity to be a part of something so rewarding and special."
